Menntakvika - Information in English
Menntakvika, an annual conference in educational sciences, will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, September 30 and October 1, 2026, for the 30th time. The conference will take place in Saga, the building of the School of Education at the University of Iceland.
The aim of the Menntakvika conference is to present and share current developments in educational sciences and related fields. The School of Education invites all those engaged in research in educational sciences and related disciplines to participate in the conference, as well as staff from other institutions who conduct research or work on relevant topics.
It will be possible to follow the sessions via Zoom; however, the sessions will not be recorded.
Participation is free of charge.
The conference is open to everyone.

Submit Abstract
The program for Menntakvika 2026 will consist of traditional conference presentations and workshops, with an emphasis on scheduling presentations in a way that allows as many people as possible to participate. The opening session will take place on Wednesday afternoon.
We hereby call for abstracts for diverse contributions to Menntakvika.
– Please read the guidelines below carefully before proceeding further –
- The maximum length for abstracts is 250 words.
- Abstracts should not include references.
- Each participant may be the first author of only one presentation, but can be a co-author on up to two others. Therefore, each participant may only give one presentation at the conference. This applies to individual papers, pre-organized symposia, and posters, but not to creative booths and presentations.
- Undergraduate students (B.Ed., BS, BA) are not permitted to present at the conference.
- All abstracts must be proofread before submission.
- Abstracts must be submitted through the official Menntakvika submission form. No other methods of submission will be accepted.
- Supervisors do not always need to be listed as co-authors of presentations/posters based on master’s theses, but they should always be acknowledged as supervisors.
Researchers, professionals, and experts in the field of education are invited to submit presentations. Each submission will be grouped with similar topics into thematic sessions.
All submitted abstracts for individual presentations must include:
- A brief description of the purpose and objectives of the research
- A brief description of the methods used
- The main findings and conclusions, along with lessons learned from the project
References should not be included in abstracts.
Pre-Organized Symposium:
A pre-organized symposium with 3–5 presentations, where a group of scholars or field experts come together to focus on a specific topic or area of research.
All submitted abstracts for organized sessions must include:
- A brief description of the purpose and objectives of the research
- A brief description of the methods used
- The main findings and conclusions, along with lessons learned from the project
References should not be included in abstracts.
Workshops
All submitted abstracts for booths/workshops must include:
- Contact information for the responsible person
- Title of the workshop
- Description of the workshop
- Information on equipment/facilities needed (e.g., computers, electricity, internet, screens)
- Please also include the estimated number of participants
- Note: workshops will not be accessible via Zoom

How to find symposia in English in the conference program?
There are several options for those who would like to attend presentations in English.
- All presentations with yellow color in the program are in English (see photo to the right).
- If you write “ in English“ in the „search program“ field, you will sort together all papers in English.
